More than 1,000 global health professionals, policy makers, business leaders, advocates and youth leaders will gather for the third Partners' Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa, 30 June – 1 July. The Partners' Forum will be a pivotal moment to review progress, identify factors for success, and agree on commitments for action to help women, newborns, children and adolescents survive and thrive.

As a lead partner of A Promise Renewed, USAID has played an active role in the planning of the Partners' Forum. USAID has been a strong supporter of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (PMNCH) since its inception and sits on one of the seven constituencies that make up PMNCH's diverse membership. USAID staff have also been involved in planning a number of parallel sessions and in the development of the Every Newborn Action Plan, maternal mortality targets, and family planning measure and benchmark.

Today at the Partners' Forum, USAID is proud to support the launch of the Every Newborn Action Plan. The Every Newborn Action Plan will lay out a roadmap and joint action platform for the reduction of preventable newborn mortality. Newborn deaths now account for 44% of deaths among children under the age of five globally, resulting in 2.9 million lives lost each year. This Action Plan is a crucial step to meet the goal of ending preventable child and maternal deaths.
